Things To Do

Hastings is full of history, character and seaside charm, with the Old Town at its heart. Wander its narrow streets to discover timbered buildings, independent shops and cafés. From here it is easy to reach Rock‑a‑Nore and The Stade, home to the famous Net Huts, the working fishing beach and Hastings Aquarium.

Take a ride on the East Hill Lift, the steepest funicular in the UK, which carries you up to the vast 850‑acre Hastings Country Park for spectacular coastal walks. On the other side, the West Hill Lift leads to the Castle and Smugglers Adventure, where you can explore underground caverns and stories of eighteenth‑century smuggling.

Along the seafront you will find the largest collection of mini golf courses in the UK, plus the striking Hastings Contemporary art gallery and bar overlooking the boats. Stroll west to reach Hastings Pier for views, food and events, then continue into St Leonards-on-Sea for a mix of independent shops, galleries, restaurants and cafés.

A short trip inland brings you to Battle Abbey, built on the site of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, where you can walk the historic battlefield.
